As announced on March 12, 2020, schools across Ontario are to remain closed March 23 through April 3 due to the emergence in Ontario of COVID-19 and in an effort to control its spread. Families are being urged to stay home as much as possible, and if not possible, are to practice social distancing.  If you have recently returned from vacation outside of Canada, please self-isolate and monitor your symptoms for 14 days.

Although our office is closed to the public during this time we can be reached via email at [email protected] or at 807-274-6664.

As the news reports indicate, the Premier's Office has announced it will close all publicly funded schools in Ontario for two weeks following March Break, in response to the emergence in Ontario of COVID-19. As a result, all schools in the Rainy River District will be closed from March 14 to April 5, 2020.

Updates will be posted as they become available.

Hwy 602 Detour Update - Monday March 9 2020

Please be advised the Hwy 602 crossing south of Emo is now partially open to traffic.

The road will be open between the periods of 7:00am - 9:00am and between 5:00pm and 7:00pm daily. 

As a result, effective Tuesday March 10, buses will resume travel via the crossing in the mornings only.

NOTE: Vehicles will be guided through the site and delays are expected. 

The afternoon routes/times via the detour remain as previously communicated. 

Families will be contacted directly today with updated pick up times.

Hwy 602 Detour Update - March 8, 2020. 

There are reports of the Hwy 602 crossing south of Emo opening Monday March 9 for periods of time with an escort present. However these periods of time are unknown and as such busing will continue via the 
detour until further notice.

Routes/times remain as previously communicated by the Operator. 

Families will be contacted directly by the operator once the crossing opens.

Hwy 602 Train Derailment Update - Thursday March 5 2020

The Hwy 602 crossing south of Emo remains closed until further notice. 

Routes/times remain as previously communicated by the Operator. 

Families will be contacted directly when the detour opens.

Reminder for Thursday March 5 2020
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) and The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) have given notice that their members will participate in a one-day full withdrawal of services on Thursday, March 5, 2020 if a provincial settlement is not reached.
Unless strike notices are withdrawn, The Northwest Catholic District School Board will be closing all schools to students for one day on Thursday, March 5, 2020. As a result, there will be NO busing for students attending the following schools:
• St. Mary School
• Our Lady of the Way School
• St. Patrick School
In addition, the Rainy River District School Board will be closing the following high schools to students in Grades 9-12 ONLY on Thursday, March 5, 2020:
• Atikokan High School
• Rainy River High School
• Fort Frances High School
ALL Rainy River District School Board elementary schools and ALL Grade 7 and 8 Programs within Rainy River District School Board high schools will be open Thursday, March 5, 2020 with busing as regularly scheduled.
Schools will reopen and busing will resume on Friday March 6, 2020.
